British rapper Rodney Smith aka Roots Manuva was born and grew up in Stockwell, South London. Critically acclaimed Manuva has been awarded a MOBO Award as Best Hip Hop Act & a nomination for the Mercury Music Prize as well as sold out shows at Brixton Academy, establishing him as a major player in UK music, and one with almost unique longevity.
Shot on the Dungeness beaches, ‘It’s On’ is set in a dream matrix like world which features Roots Manuva & 3 beautiful Japanese female characters dressed like gothic lolitas in geisha style make up. They have a haunting presence & launch into an amazing choreographed dance routines & movements using a hip hop street style mixed with a classical edge. Ballet & contemporary meets street dance & krumping.
Camera techniques were used in certain sections to give the dance movements a surreal edge & the appearance as if the girls were all dancing at different speeds.
