George Mpanga aka George The Poet is a British spoken word performer, writer and recording artist who is a BRIT Critics Choice Award nominee and reached the Top 5 in BBC’s Sound of 2015 voted by 139 DJs, critics and broadcasters.

Mpanga has made British “street poetry” a new cultural force and an alternative to the overtly commercialised genre of Hip-Hop music. He is already much-sought-after by artists wanting to add his unique sparkle of street-savvy verse and thoughtful wordplay to their work having appeared on songs by Emeli Sande, Paulo Nutini, Labrinth, Naughty Boy & Wretch 32. He has performed on the BBC’s Later… with Jools Holland and he’s supported Hip-Hop artist Nas on tour.

In the video for his single ‘1 2 1 2’, a mixed cast of actors, performers and dancers appear as a characters from all different walks of life, coming together performing choreographed actions, movement and dance as one unified group. As the video progresses we see these individuals break out of uniformity as a nod to George The Poet’s themes of empowerment and individuality in the song. The end product delivers a video with strong visuals with a quirky and often humourous interpretation of individuality thorough physical theatre, movement and dance.

‘1 2 1 2’ has been nominated for Best Urban Video at the forthcoming UK Music Video Awards to be held a London’s legendary Roundhouse.
